Last Thursday, we had a Thanksgiving Menu at the canteen. Thanks to our cook and his team !
All the pupils of 3rd forms ( 4° ) have studied Thanksgiving in class and have made beautiful menus that have been dispatched on the tables in the restaurant.
Thanksgiving is one of the most important celebration in the USA. It is celebrated on the fourth Thursday of November. The families gather around a meal, traditionally eating Turkey and pumpkins, corn and pie.
But where does this come from ?
In 1620, the Pilgrim Fathers wanted to escape persecution in England. So, 102 of them, on board “The Mayflower” decided to leave to America. When they arrived, cold and hunger were waiting for them. 45 died in the first winter.
An Indian called Squanto wanted to help them. He showed them where to hunt and fish, how to build long houses and how to plant local crops.
In the spring of 1621, the harvest was great. The thankful pilgrims invited Squanto and his tribe to a great feast to thank God and them for their survival. The celebration lasted for 3 days and that was the very first Thanksgiving !
